Meaning: the river of judgment · 177 cross references · Modern-day map available

The Jordan is the great river running from the north through the Sea of Galilee down to the Dead Sea, forming one of the Bible's most important natural boundaries. It matters as the river Israel crossed to enter the promised land, the setting of prophetic signs in the ministries of Elijah and Elisha, and the river associated with John the Baptist and the baptism of Jesus. First appears in Gen 32:10.1
