Bethlehem is the hill-country town south of Jerusalem best known as the city of David and the birthplace of Jesus. It is important because it is linked with Rachel's burial, the story of Ruth and Boaz, the anointing of David, and the fulfillment of messianic expectation in the New Testament. First appears in Gen 35:19.1
