Seir is the mountainous region south of the Dead Sea and east of the Arabah, closely associated with Edom and the descendants of Esau. It is important because it names the hill country that became Edom's homeland and appears in Israel's memory of kinship, wilderness travel, and later conflict. First appears in Gen 14:6.1
