Jericho, the city of palms in the Jordan Valley near the road up to Jerusalem, is one of the best-known cities in the Bible. It is important as the first major city encountered in Israel's entry into the land, and later as a place associated with prophetic healing and with Jesus' ministry to the blind and to Zacchaeus. First appears in Num 22:1.1
