Egypt is the great Nile region to the south-west of Canaan and one of the most significant kingdoms in the Bible. It matters above all as the place where Israel was preserved in Joseph's day, later enslaved, and then delivered in the Exodus, while also remaining a recurring symbol of power, refuge, temptation, and oppression throughout Scripture. First appears in Gen 12:10.1
