Machpelah was the burial cave and field near Hebron bought by Abraham for his family. It is important because it became the ancestral burial place of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah, making it one of the Bible's strongest markers of promise and continuity in the land. First appears in Gen 23:9.1
