Babylon, the great city on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia, is one of the Bible's most powerful images of human empire. It is important as the capital that conquered Judah and carried many of its people into exile, and later as a symbol of pride, oppression, idolatry, and worldly power set against God's rule. First appears in 2 Kgs 17:24.1
