Dictionary Summary:A son of Rechab, the founder of a tribe who bound themselves by a vow to abstain from wine ([Jer. 35:6-19](/jer#Jer.35.6)). There were different settlements of Rechabites ([Judg. 1:16](/judg#Judg.1.16); [4:11](/judg#Judg.4.11); [1 Chr. 2:55](/1chr#1Chr.2.55)). (See RECHABITE.) His interview and alliance with Jehu are mentioned in [2 Kings 10:15-23](/2kgs#2Kgs.10.15). He went with Jehu in his chariot to Samaria. 2
